Beautifully crafted this
1940's tufa cast ketoh features an incredible, Natural Morenci turquoise stone
that is set flat in a smooth bezel. Believed to have been made by Navajo Artist John Burnside, unsigned. The Navajo as a form of wrist protection
originally created the classic ketoh for hunter. It would guard the lower arm
from being hit by the bowstring once the arrow was released. This aged bow
guard is in very good condition.
The leather band looks to
be a bit newer but definitely shows some wear. The leather portion of the piece
measures 4 1/4" wide x 10 1/4" long, with the silver portion
measuring 4" long by 2 1/2" wide. The Morenci stone measures 1
5/8" by 3/4". Bow guards are now worn by both men and women as
bracelets.
