Duane Dishta was born in Zuni, New Mexico in
1946, and has always lived there. Duane's father, Frank is Zuni and his
mother, Elizabeth is three-quarter Zuni and one-quarter Hopi. Duane learned silversmithing at a young age, but was always interested in painting, with ceremonial and spiritual figures having the most influence with his artwork. Sadly Duane passed away in
February 2011. Family, friends and collectors
will forever remember him.
One
of the best known Zuni painters, Duane's acrylics are known for their vivid colors with depth and movement within each design.This wonderful painting depicts a Long Hair (Ung ak-tsina) Kachina dancer.
Sight size is 11 1/2" by 15 1/2". Framed, on canvas, size 17 5/8" by 13 1/2". Note: The small white dots are a reflection from the light on the acrylic paint and are not present on the painting.
Duane has won awards at the Gallup Inter-Tribal
Ceremonial in Gallup, N.M.; at the Heard Museum show in Phoenix, Arizona; and
at the American Indian and Western Relic show in Pasadena, CA. Published in "Zuni the Art and the People". Volume 2.
