Description

This unique set of spoons are hand-wrought sterling silver. Beautifully crafted by Navajo artist Ike Wilson. Deeply struck stamping graces each end stem. With his hallmark on one of the spoons. This unused set comes to us, from the family/collection of long time trader Charles Newcomb. Mr. Newcomb was the second owner of the established 1926 trading post, Casa del Navajo in Coolidge, NM. Mr. Newcomb employed Navajo craftspeople to make their creations at the post for tourists and visitors. Each spoon measures 9 1/8" long

Ike Wilson was active between 1920 and 1942 and was known to have worked at Zuni for trader C. G. Wallace and trader Charles Kelsey. Wilson's stamp-work was precise with superior craftsmanship in his work. He was a master jeweler from this early era. Wilson was especially known for ashtrays, bar-ware and other decorative utensils.
