Fred Skaggs (non-native) was a master silversmith, making
beautiful and unique modernistic pieces of jewelry. He played an important role
in influencing many Native American artists. One of his most famous students
was Hopi artist Charles Loloma. Fred had his jewelry studio in the Kiva Craft
Complex which was located in Scottsdale AZ. starting in 1956. He work with many
artists and helped inspire and encourage them in their endeavors as jewelry
makers. Charles Loloma thought highly of Fred and often mentioned the important
influence he had in his life.
These beautiful earring show the modernistic design of Fred’s
work. This triangular design took many different forms during his career. A beautiful patina graces this pair. They
measure 1 ˝” wide by 1 ˝” high, with original clip closures. These earring can easily
be converted into posts. They weigh 19.3 grams. Hallmarked with sterling,
