Hopi
pueblo artist Michael Kabotie C: 1942-2009 learned the art of silversmithing by
spending time at the Hopi Guild workshop that was founded by his father Fred
Kabotie. He was both a painter and a jeweler and became well respected across
the world for his unique style in both medians. In 1973, he helped found Artist
Hopid, a group of painters who experimented for several years with new interpretations
of traditional Hopi art. Both his paintings and jewelry are featured in museums
around the world.
