Description

This Koyemsi Kachina was carved and signed by world renowned Hopi carver Jimmy Kewanwytewa. It measures 14 1/2" tall by 5" wide. He is in excellent condition, with no cracks or broken parts. There are a few areas where the paint has chipped or rubbed away, with a lighter color appearing underneath. Jimmy added extra accents to his kachinas, with a leather arm band and rattle. Signed JK on the bottom right foot.
The Mud Head Kachina is a multi-faceted clown introduced from the Zuni. They may appear on the First Mesa and possibly other villages. Their songs are in Zuni. They often engage in games with the children in the audience or appear as a single drummer for a group. These kachinas appear in almost every Hopi dance. (Koyemsi, Mud Head Kachina).
