This lovely Kewa 12 strand necklace features deep tomato red Mediterranean coral with a mix of oxblood coral tube beads. Added are natural turquoise pieces and a variety of hand made Navajo silver beads, making this a stunning necklace. The necklace is 25" total length including a 3 3/4" silver hook and eye. This style of beadwork is thought to be the oldest form of jewelry from New Mexico and is still practiced today mostly among Native Americans of the Santo Domingo (Kewa) and San Felipe Pueblos. It predates the metalworking and lapidary techniques practiced by the Navajo, Hopi and Zuni, which were introduced by Europeans.
