Dinah and Peter Gasper have an established reputation as master carvers, with their carvings highly desired by collectors. Pete and Dinah carved fetishes in the traditional style for which the family had become known for. They were the first carvers to inlay heart lines into their fetishes. Peter passed away in 2011. Both had retired prior to his death.
These 48 little birds are carved from dark green Serpentine, jet, coral, turquoise, white and yellow shell and are strung with pin shell heishi. The necklace has some very special Zuni made cones, that are set with snake eye turquoise. Purchased in 1974. Unsigned, which was common during this era.
