Description

Stamped U S Navajo 50, which appears on the underside of cast and hand wrought jewelry made between 1938 and 1943. The stamp was used on all Navajo jewelry made and sold from the Albuquerque Indian School in New Mexico. The addition of the stamped number 177, not seen on other pieces that were stamped from the Indian Arts and Crafts Board. The large variety of numbers are now believed to have been assigned and given to a student at the school. Rare and highly collectable with theses stamps. This stunning bracelet is definitely well made and worn some, as the stamps show the wear.

The bracelet has been published in the Billie Hougart book, THE NATIVE AMERICAN SILVER RENAISSANCE. 1938-1948. It is also seen and discussed in a blog by Pat & Kim
Messier's, May 3, 2020. On the Indian Arts and Crafts Board Stamping program. Both are well worth reading. Amazing history of Native American Jewelry.

The beautiful bracelet measures 1 3/8" wide, with a lovely open design and precise file work. The inside measures 6" with a 1 1/8" opening. Slightly adjustable. The silver has a soft shine, having been stored carefully in a private collection for many years.
