This rare bracelet is the early work of well-known Hopi artist
Ralph Tawangyaouma. Ralph was actively making jewelry from
1906 into the late 1960’s. He was known for his unique style in jewelry, not
always traditional overlay Hopi style. He was a very spiritual man and was a
Two-Horned Priest in his Hotevilla Village. He worked for a period of time in
Phoenix Arizona as a silversmith for Fred Wilson’s TP and Vaughn’s. His work is
highly collectable and adored by many!
This bracelet of Ralph's offers a vintage piece of history. Being one of his more rare bracelets in the traditional overlay style and the having the Swastika. The Whirling Log (swastika) is a very old (1890-1940) symbol used by the Navajo and other tribes that predates the negative use of the symbol. It represented the four directions in the tribal beliefs. In February 1940, the tribes banned the use of the symbol.
The center of the bracelets measures 1 1/4" wide. The inside measurement is 5 7/8" with a 1 1/2"
opening. Slightly adjustable. Hallmarked with his Thundercloud.
