Stamped U S Navajo 2, which appeared on the undersides of hand wrought or cast jewelry made between 1937 and 1942. The stamp was used on all Navajo jewelry sold from the C.G. Wallace's Sanders and Cedar Point posts in Arizona. Rare and highly collectable with this stamp. This stunning belt is definitely one of a few historic master smiths that were associated with C. G. Wallace, such as Ettsity Tsosie, Ambrose Roanhorse, Hosteen Goodluck and Austin Wilson and the U.S. Navajo 2 stamp during this short period in time.
Also having a C.G. Wallace traders code etched on the back of the buckle, this outstanding concho belt presents the best work from an era long past! Having a strong feeling that this is the work of Etsitty Tsosie which is quite rare.
Eskiesose was best known for his stamp making abilities. Both he and Hosteen Goodluck were commissioned to make stamps for trader C.G. Wallace. He was one of only a few master jewelers and active from the 1910's to 1937. This beautifully crafted concho belt offers second phase hand wrought crafting of ingot silver. Hand drawn silver, each concho has beautiful (stamped) repousse and detailed stamp work. The design is set with beautiful Natural turquoise stones. The back of each concho has a single copper bar weaved through a contoured, soft black leather belt measuring 1" wide. Each of the 7 concho's measure 2 1/2" long by 2" wide, with the ties measuring 2" by 1". The beautiful buckle measuring 2 3/4" by 2 1/4". The silver has a lovely patina from age, having been stored carefully in a private collection for many years. The entire belt measures 36 1/4" long.
