Description

The Tree of Life Navajo Rug design first appeared in the late 1800's. When the Navajo weavers started to weave pictorial rugs, they also started to create yei (Holy People) and corn stalks. Almost always there would be birds perched on the tips of the leaves. They would alternate the Yei's with the cornstalks in different designs.

Contemporary Navajo Tree of Life rugs usually depict and upright cornstalk growing from a Navajo Wedding basket, the sacred basket whose center represents the Navajo point of emergence. The beliefs is an interconnection with all beings.

This lovely rug has been well kept and has no fading on either side. It is in excellent condition. Created in the 1960's/70's. It has all the elements you will find in a well woven Navajo rug. It offers not only birds, but several other animals along with the wedding basket and Yei figure. It measures 33" long by 22" wide.
