Mines in the northern areas of Iran have been producing turquoise for many centuries. For over 800 years Persia (Iran) produced the bulk of the world’s turquoise using the simplest of hand tools. The oldest continuously operated mines known to have operated at least since 1000 AD and possible earlier.
The solid, rich blue colors of the turquoise have always been prized in its flawless form. Persian turquoise found with its matrix forms, with the fine blue colors and unique patterns is quite beautiful and also highly valued.
