The Morenci turquoise mine is located in
Greenlee County, Arizona. “Morenci is the largest copper producer in North
America” and is now owned by Freeport McMoRan. Morenci has been seen in
prehistoric pieces, as the Native Americans found small deposits of turquoise
and would mine small areas. The Morenci mine produced large amounts of
turquoise in beautiful blue colors, which varied from light to very dark blue. Morenci
is a harder stone and often has a richer color than other Arizona turquoise.
The matrix often consists of iron pyrite or “fool’s gold” and when polished often
looks like silver or gold and some quartz. Our family mined the Morenci turquoise for 47 year.
The Morenci offered below is at wholesale prices.
